General presentation
Welcome to the Arttrustonline website. This is the ARTtrust company website which commercializes a unique solution for authentication and traceability of graphic and photographic reproductions whether digital or stemming from other reproduction techniques.
ARTtrust is a sas, an independent subsidiary of the Prooftag company which aims is to contribute to the increase in value of artistic works by strenghtening the mutual trust between the various stakeholders on the art market in view of offering a better safety to public or private holders. ARTtrust is autonomous in the way it creates its revenue and pursues sustainability, independently of its founders.
ARTtrust partners
ARTtrust arose from the collaboration between Prooftag, Hewlett Packard, hereinafter referred to as HP, and Wilhem Imaging Research Inc., hereinafter called WIR.
Prooftag is the discoverer of the Bubble Tag TM, a physical element that is impossible to reproduce in an identical way even by its manufacturer. It is used for the protection of brands and products as well as for official documents or identity papers.
HP is a computer technology company established in more than 170 countries throughout the world. Its technology and its services aim at bringing an answer to problems and challenges met by private people and companies by combining reflection with innovative ideas in view of creating more simple and more reliable technologies of better value.
Wilhelm Imaging Research is an independent laboratory which carries out research on the stability and the preservation of photographs and films made with digital or conventional techniques. WIR publishes the longevity data for each brand of printer whether desktop or large-format printers. Wilhem Imaging Research also works as a consultant for museums, public records and private collections for sub-zero cold storage for very long conservation of films and photographs.
Description of the ARTtrust solution
Thanks to a control and a better availability of on-line information regarding the works of art, the artists, the photographers and the final users may known the origin of the works. They can also protect their investments in this field and guarantee their future value.
ARTtrust is intended for creators (photographers, designers, digital or traditional artists), printers (artists who print their work themselves, professional photo labs, printing service providers specialized in the fine arts and reproduction), art traders (art galleries, auction rooms) and collectors (private and public collections, institutions and museums).
The ARTtrust solution includes a membership card for each artist or person entitled, a set of three labels for each piece of art and the website. Those labels contain a unique Bubble Tag TM, a reference number and a data matrix code. Each label plays a specific part : the silver one is affixed to the back of the artwork. The golden one is attached to the certificate or the document accompanying the work whilst the blue label must be kept by the artist. Each buyer is able to control the authenticity of the artwork on the website. He/she has to enter on his/her mobile telephone or his/her computer the number appearing either on the silver or on the golden label. He/she will then see an image of the Bubble Tag TM and will therefore be able to make a visual comparison. Since the labels are tamper-proof, the authenticity is certain.
Information on the longevity of the pigment ink prints
There is no restriction to the choice of bases (paper, canvas or any other medium) by the artists. The base itself is part of the artistic creation.
Visitors to the website will find information on the longevity of the drawings or prints if those have been made with HP Designjet series Z using pigment inks HP Vivera and if they have been tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research. If the base has not been tested by WIR, ARTtrust will try as much as possible to propose a link to the manufacturer’s website of the said base. The published information may be consulted in detail on the WIR websites well as the test protocol data. ARTtrust cannot be liable, whatever the period in time, for the longevity displayed on the website. The conditions of use of the considered drawing cannot be controlled in comparison with laboratory’s conditions. Indeed, ARTtrust is not aware of the identity of the owner of an artwork at a given moment in time nor of the conditions in which the aforesaid artwork is kept or presented.
ARTtrust does not provide information on the durability of the drawings resulting from other printing or production techniques different than the above-named, whether digital or other.

ARTtrust retains and uses, in conformity with the law applicable to copyright and agreements with third parties all rights, included the copyright in the field of data, images, texts or any other information contained in these files. The copyright and other rights related to the property of the contents of the Arttrustonline website may also apply to persons or companies different that Arttrustonline. Arttrustonline expressly forbids the copying of the protected contents of this website.
The unauthorized publication or exploitation of Arttrustonline files is positively forbidden. Any person who wishes to use one of the files or images for commercial purposes, for publication or for any other utilization, must introduce a request and receive prior authorization.
In order to reproduce or to use the registered trademarks and/or the images protected by copyright appearing on this website but not belonging to them, the authors or the legal persons concerned and holders must be directly contacted and independently from the ARTtrust company which is not responsible for the determination of the validity or the obtainment of these rights. The applicant will be responsible for finding the necessary contacts.
The information provided by the authors or by any other entity independent of the arttrustonline website who would legitimately have the right to download information are the sole responsibility of the author and do not involve the responsibility as to the descriptions related to the contents of this information. Similarly, ARTtrust may not be held as a judge and thus responsible for the morality expressed in certain artworks. Nevertheless, ARTtrust reserves the right to withdraw any textual or visual information having a link with terrorism, racism, pedophilia or any other characteristic in contravention of international law in force.
Access to the website
Subject to the other general conditions applicable to the use of the Arttrustonline website, access to the website and to its contents is free for consultation and control of validity of identifiers (tags ARTtrust) of the artworks. However, it does not give the right to publish, re-use or supply to third parties the contents of the Arttrustonline website to whatever purposes. Failure to respect these prescriptions, access to the website can be suspended by the sole decision of ARTtrust with no possibility of recourse for the user who did not comply with the present General Conditions.
In no case whatsoever, shall ARTtrust, its representatives or employees will be held liable for particular direct or indirect economic losses, whether or not these losses are foreseeable or result from an act of negligence of ARTtrust linked or resulting from the use of the Arttrustonline website, except in the contingency where no mention of the General Conditions can have an effect on the restrictions on the responsibility of Arttrustonline in the matter of loss or damages related to personal injury or to a decease.
You shall fully indemnify Arttrustonline, its partners, its directors, its management and its employees and shall not hold them responsible for any complaint lodged by a third party in relation to the use of any part of the Web or any content, any application being part of the website.
ARTtrust reserves the right to introduce any changes to these general conditions relating to the use of the Arttrustonline website. These modifications will be mentioned on the site. The net users are liable for consulting the site and reading the changes that might be introduced. The changes will take effect 24 hours after their publication. They will have to be accepted as such by the users of the suite.
The present General Conditions are interpreted, analyzed and governed by the French law. Any complaint or litigation related to this law will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the French law.
